Field guide

Executive search software runs the workflow. It does not own the signal.

Retained search is long, expensive and relationship-driven. The tools are good at holding the process. They are rarely good at holding the reason a candidate will say yes.

The workflow gap

The candidate profile is not the candidate context.

Executive search software does a difficult job well: it holds long-lists, documents, interview schedules and stakeholder feedback across a search that can run for six months. It is the system of record for the process.

But the process is not the persuasion. A senior candidate does not move because of a well-organised long-list. They move because the timing, the strategic context and the approach are right. That context lives in newspapers, annual reports, conference talks and call notes.

The researcher ends up carrying this context in their head, in notebooks and in shared drives. When they leave, it leaves with them. When the search pauses, the memory fades. The software keeps the file open; it does not keep the insight alive.

That is the gap. A search tool that held the workflow but also held the signal would be a different kind of advantage. Not a replacement. An intelligence layer.

Where Holi fits

Four moves for a retained desk.

  1. 01

    Signal capture

A board announcement, a LinkedIn post, a sector note. Holi reads it and files it against the right candidate, with the source line intact.

  2. 02

    Stakeholder memory

The chairman's last comment, the CHRO's preferences, the candidate's stated timing. Holi remembers it so the next conversation starts in the right place.

  3. 03

    Drafted approaches

Not a template. A first paragraph that references the specific thing the candidate said or did, in the researcher's voice.

  4. 04

    Long-cycle learning

A weekly digest of what changed in the market and which moves landed. The search compounds over months, not days.

Questions

Executive search software, answered plainly.

What is executive search software?
Executive search software is a specialised set of tools for retained, senior-level search: long-list building, stakeholder mapping, candidate tracking, interview coordination and reporting. It is workflow-heavy because the searches are relationship-heavy and long-cycle.
Does executive search software replace a researcher's judgement?
No. The software holds the workflow, the documents and the timeline. The researcher still has to read the market, spot the strategic move and phrase the approach in a way that lands with a senior candidate.
What is missing from most executive search tools?
Memory of the signal. A board change, a conference paper, a line in a shareholder letter. These are the reasons a candidate listens. Most tools store the candidate profile; they do not store the context that makes the candidate move.
How does Holi work in executive search?
Holi captures the external signal, attaches it to the candidate record and drafts the approach in your voice. It does not replace the CRM or research workflow; it feeds it with context that would otherwise live in notebooks and call notes.
Do I need a new CRM to use Holi for executive search?
No. Holi sits alongside your existing executive search software or CRM. It reads the signal, remembers it and drafts the next move. Your system of record stays untouched.
